Ever wanted to help, rescue and rehabilitate orphaned and injured wildlife? This volunteer project is situated in Vancouver, one of the worlds best livable city! Surrounded by mountains, ocean, ski resorts and Canada's wild nature!

If you are interested to rescue and rehabilitate wildlife but would prefer to stay in the urban areas in Vancouver than this is the project for you! Every year this volunteer project treats over 1,000 wild birds and mammals from throughout the greater Vancouver and Fraser Valley area. This project specializes in waterfowl. Over 50% of which are fully rehabilitated and released back in to the wild. Your mission is to provide humane care to injured, orphaned, sick, and distressed wildlife based on established rehabilitation standards and the animal's natural history. Each animal is treated individually and assessed for eventual release back into the wild. Working with wildlife at the centre is rewarding but physically demanding, and it is by no means an ’easy holiday option’! Animal care volunteers are needed mostly during the busiest summer months of April through September, however volunteering through the winter is possible. Being located within the suburbs the project cares mostly for waterfowl, smaller mammals and birds.

The volunteer project is located in one of the suburbs in the Fraser Valley Near the Vancouver Area where there is something to do for everyone.  Whether it is enjoying the nature, ski or snowboard, mountain bike, hike, going to the nearby coast and enjoying the sea or visiting Vancouver Downtown there is plenty to do near the volunteer station on your days of.

Your Homestay accommodation will be arranged by FRONTEERING near the volunteer project.
Homestay: live with a Canadian family and includes your own bedroom, laundry facility in the house, wireless internet, cable TV and Breakfast and Dinner. Giornata tipica

This is a fast paced, intense, and physically demanding environment. Four hour shifts pass quickly due to regular feedings that must be kept on schedule and endless cleaning duties. Volunteers help with bottle feeding young mammals and hand feeding young birds, preparing diets for self feeding animals, cleaning and enriching animal cages, and general cleaning around the facility such as dishes, laundry, and washpad. Volunteers that are handy with tools may also help fix or build cages and other structures. Volunteers work both individually and as a team to complete the required tasks. Animals that volunteers work with regularly include: squirrels, raccoons, songbirds, and waterfowl.

    • Feed and care for different kind of animals including mammals and birds
    • Build and maintain animal enclosures
    • Assist with capture and release
    • Educate the public
Animal rescue and rehabilitation is fundamental to the continued conservation and protection of Canada’s diverse birds of prey species which all need your help. This program offers volunteers of any age to help in the many areas of wildlife rehabilitation. Projects are diverse and include activities such as feeding injured animals, administering medical treatments, cleaning and fixing cages, maintaining observation records, equipment maintenance, office work, answering telephones, and of course leaning about what it takes to care for animals!
