Details
Your volunteering program can be tailored accordingly to different groups; for children in poverty, children and youth with disabilities, orphaned children, unemployed youth, women in poverty, people with HIV, people recovering from trauma, people recovering from addiction, the elderly, artists, teachers, etc.

For us, community psychology means skills and tools to empower us to reach and work with the local community in different types of programs and tasks.

We use our social media pages for advocacy work and our Facebook pages have more than 50K followers.

Your internship is being daily supervised by academic-level team leaders. We monitor your work with a weekly plan and report system to secure you proceed well in your study program.

The volunteering outcome is to learn to use and to get experience to implement your education in developing country conditions with limited capacitation. Also to better understand the opportunities in a fast-growing economy.

This is an ongoing program so we can adjust your start dates. We accept the applications of all students and alumni. Your placement is tailored according to your background, experience, and interests to empower our daily work with the communities. Your program can be from 2 weeks up to 12 months. You can also conduct thesis and related tasks. The common daily tasks include practical fieldwork, planning, reporting, and visibility tasks.

The start and end dates are flexible and can also accommodate other travel arrangements in Tanzania. International flights, student permits, accommodation, and meals are personal costs.

To book you in and to open your personal account, we need your tentative arrival and departure dates that can be adjusted.

Typical day

Common working hours are from AM 9 to PM 1630 but we may have seminars and meetings evening times and weekends as well. The nature of work is to follow the time the target groups are free.

The participant will develop human rights materials, study the present legislation and changes in the legislation. There are rights issues as LGTB rights that are sensitive in Africa and need to be adjourned accordingly.

Much of the work is to advocate how to implement the present human rights laws. The public in common do not necessarily know their rights and we advocate the vulnerable group as women, children, and disabled people. You will use existing tool kits for seminars but you also develop them and create new ones.

Much time will be used for visibility as for example Facebook is a great tool to reach Tanzanian people. Art in Tanzania's Facebook page has 38k likes and we can deliver information to tens of thousands of Tanzanian people.

Free-time activities

During your free time, you can enjoy low-cost safaris to Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and other National parks. You can join our groups climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and move on to relax at Zanzibar beaches. We have also a variety of one-day programs for short breaks as diving and snookering at the reefs, swimming with dolphins, rainforest trekking at Kilimanjaro, live African music, a variety of sports programs, craft making as batik making courses, and so on.
