    Type: Internship (thesis welcome)

    Location: Schools, public settings, and partner companies around Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

    Duration: 2 weeks – 12 months, year-round · 6–8 hrs/day, Monday–Friday

    About the role

    Join an award-winning program where business education meets real impact. Work directly with corporate partners on their CSR and sustainability strategies while delivering climate education and environmental fieldwork in the community.

    What you'll do

    • Deliver CSR and climate education in schools and public settings
    • Assess and develop partner companies' CSR strategies
    • Carry out environmental fieldwork: tree nurseries and planting
    • Produce program documentation and visibility work
    • Integrate an optional thesis or research project into your placement
    • Partner-linked work with:
    • Academic: University of Dar es Salaam
    • Corporates: Twiga Cement, Airtel, Coca-Cola, NBC Bank, PVC

    Common working hours are from AM 9 to PM 1630, but we may also have seminars and meetings in the evenings and on weekends. The nature of the work is to follow the target groups' availability.


    The participant will develop human rights materials and study current legislation and its changes. Rights issues such as LGBT rights are sensitive in Africa and need to be addressed accordingly. 

    Much of the work involves advocating for how to implement current human rights laws. The general public does not necessarily know their rights, and we advocate for vulnerable groups, such as women, children, and disabled people. You will use existing toolkits for seminars, but you will also develop and create new ones.

    Much time will be spent on visibility; for example, Facebook is a great tool for reaching Tanzanian people. Art in Tanzania's Facebook page has 19k likes, and we can reach tens of thousands of Tanzanians.

You can join our groups climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and then move on to relax at Zanzibar beaches. We also offer a variety of one-day programs for short breaks, such as diving and snorkeling at the reefs, swimming with dolphins, rainforest trekking in Kilimanjaro, live African music, a variety of sports programs, and craft-making, including batik-making courses, and so on. You will enjoy your stay in Tanzania.

    Minimum Age: 18 years

    In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

    Other Skills

    Patient and open-minded in facing developing-country conditions. This program offers opportunities for participants of different backgrounds and experiences. Younger participants can engage in practical groundwork in a tree nursery and in planting, while more experienced participants can take on more complex community tasks with corporate programs.

    Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 09:00 - 16:30

    The fee includes accommodation, breakfast, dinner, program guidance with orientation, 24-hour staff presence, and academic graduate team leaders for all programs.

    The actual program is free of charge. You may have small local transfer costs. 

    The cost does not include international flights, local transfers, charity visa, or personal purchases.

    Airport transfer is EUR 60 one-way.

    Accommodation

    Our eco-compound in Madale Village in the Dar es Salaam area has dorms, single, double, and family rooms. As an eco-compound, we use flush toilets with bio-grade septic tanks; we collect shower water and use it as "grey water" for our tropical garden irrigation. This compound is in Madale village, so it is in the countryside but a short distance from the city.

    We charge for accommodation with breakfast and dinner only. 

    Food & Beverages

    We include breakfast and dinner in the lodging cost at our compound. Lunches are not included because most participants are out of the compound during the day. Local places to eat are around your placement and affordable.

    All drinks are at your own cost. Drinking water is available everywhere at a low price. We also run a compound bar, so you can easily access drinks and snacks
