Summary
Art in Tanzania is developing young musicians and dancers in Tanzania. We focus on traditional African music with hectic drum rhythms and dancing.  We are looking for western artists to join the program for cultural exchange. We are also developing school music teaching.

Details
The work picture includes working in our Mzuka Records music program, joining band rehearsals, developing the shows, and teaching music.
At the moment, Tanzanian schools have no music instruction due to a lack of resources and funding.  Art in Tanzania trains the artists to be music teachers and introduces music teaching as an extra curriculum in schools.

Our New evolving program is Music Therapy as part of the Art Therapy approach.
Interns are working in a team of international and Tanzanian multi-professional intern teams. We encourage innovation in the program approach.

The working hours are 6-8 hours per day from Monday to Friday. This is an ongoing program and we can adjust the starting dates.
Interns work in teams of international students and volunteer professionals. Please contact us for information on customized and personalized programming. Arts in Tanzania's internships, facilities, and operations are also accessible for those with disabilities.

This program helps the Tanzanian government to include some art and music teaching in the school curriculums as it is more or less completely lacking due to the lack of capacities. It also gives work for the Tanzanian artist.

Typical day

Music and dance programs include various activities and your day is a common mix of the tasks as below.

Rehearsals. Art in Tanzania is working with top Tanzanian Dance and Music artists. You participate in the weekly rehearsals taking place commonly on the days when there are no shows booked. So the program is not fixed. Rehearsals take place in various locations depending on where the shows will take place and commonly the instruments stored at that time. When it is rehearsal work it takes all day as they happen in the city area.

Music production is also an activity that can happen whensoever there is work even at nighttime. That is the typical life of music artist in Tanzania.

School and other music teaching happen in school hours sometimes after as well if it is an extra curriculum activity So you need to be flexible here as well.

Music as part of Art Therapy takes place commonly at the compound you are living and it is a late afternoon program.

Free-time activities

During your free time, you can enjoy low-cost safaris to Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and other National parks. You can join our groups climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and move on to relax at Zanzibar beaches. We have also a variety of one-day programs for short breaks as diving and snookering at the reefs, swimming with dolphins, rainforest trekking at Kilimanjaro, live African music, a variety of sports programs, craft making as batik making courses, and so on. You will enjoy your stay in Tanzania.
