Art in Tanzania is a self-sustainable non-profit charity NGO. We earn our funds from safari tour operations, movie, and music production as well as from sales of solar-powered and other environmentally friendly products. The daily management of NGO operations is also part of the duties.

Our community-based programs are designed to empower the local communities and individual people. Our volunteers experience being immersed in the daily life in Tanzania while also having the opportunity to witness the growth of one of the fastest-growing economies in Africa.
Our business and marketing programs are focused on training community entrepreneurship skills. We also focus on the marketing of volunteering placements, internships, safaris, and tours as well as our music. Our new sales products are solar-powered gadgets, composting dry toilets, and water purification systems.
Our management tasks include NGO management assistance and development, staff training for new skills, and raising awareness about issues such as sustainability.
Presently we are developing online and mobile platforms to reach children in rural Tanzania. We use our social media pages for advocacy work and our Facebook pages have more than 50K followers. Interns work in a team of international and Tanzanian multi-professional students. We encourage innovation in the program approach. Network development is highlighted, as in Africa the capacities are limited, and being able to work together helps.
Your volunteer placement is being daily supervised by academic-level team leaders. We monitor your work with a weekly plan and report system to secure you proceed well in your study program.
The volunteering outcome is to learn to use and to get experience to implement your education in developing country conditions with limited capacitation. Also to better understand the opportunities in a fast-growing economy.
Volunteers work in teams of international students and volunteer professionals. We encourage innovation in the program approach. Work hours are 6-8 hours per day, Monday through Friday.
Your placement is tailored according to your background, experience, and interests to empower our daily work with the communities. Your program can be from 2 weeks up to 12 months. You can also conduct thesis and related tasks. The common daily tasks include practical fieldwork, planning, reporting, and visibility tasks.
The start and end dates are flexible and can also accommodate other travel arrangements in Tanzania. International flights, student permits, accommodation, and meals are personal costs.

To book you in and to open your personal account, we need your tentative arrival and departure dates that can be adjusted.
Common working hours are from AM 9 to PM 1630 but we may have seminars and meetings evening times and weekends as well. The nature of work is to follow the time the target groups are free.
During your free time, you can enjoy low-cost safaris to Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, and other National parks. You can join our groups climbing Mt Kilimanjaro and move on to relax at Zanzibar beaches. We have also a variety of one-day programs for short breaks as diving and snookering at the reefs, swimming with dolphins, rainforest trekking at Kilimanjaro, live African music, a variety of sports programs, craft making as batik making courses, and so on. You will enjoy your stay in Tanzania.
The fee includes accommodation, breakfast, and dinner, program guidance with orientation, and 24 hours of staff presence and academic graduate team leaders for all programs.
The actual program is free of cost. You may have local small transfer costs.
Cost does not include international flights, local transfers, charity VISA, and personal purchases.
Our eco-compound in Madale village in the Dar es Salaam area has dorms, single, double, and family rooms. As an eco-compound we use our own design composting dry toilets, we collect shower water and urine and use it as "grey water" for our large garden irrigation. Construction materials include bamboo, recycled bottles, and similar. This compound is located in Madale village, so it is a countryside place but a short distance from the city as well.
We charge accommodation with breakfast and dinner only.
We serve breakfast and dinner as accommodation inclusive. Lunches are available at a nominal cost, but you need to book one every morning as many people are not at the compound we cook and charge only those who are present and wish to have lunch.
All drinks are personal cost. Drinking water is available everywhere at a low cost. We also run a compound bar, so you have easy access to drinks and snacks.
