Manjeev is an officially certified Monty Roberts instructor - the only one in Asia. He has spent extensive time working with and training horses, including wild mustangs in the US. He also got involved in mental health projects using horses to help war veterans with PTSD and troubled youth, among many others. Charlotte is a Monty Roberts advanced student. She is passionate about helping people bond with horses as well as build leadership and confidence skills through their relationships with horses.
Our volunteer programs offer the opportunity to learn about horses, their psychology and body language as well as the right way to work and communicate with them. The first part of the program will focus on teaching you the basics of natural horsemanship in theory and giving you the chance to implement it in practice with our horses who are all safe and trained. You will then assist in our natural horsemanship workshop and courses, as well as in the workshops we run outside of the farm.
The focus of this program is to connect with horses and learn to communicate with them, and therefore train them in ways that make sense to horses (i.e. different from what naturally makes sense to humans). Depending on your riding level and interest, we can organise some riding (please let us know in advance if this is something you want to do.)
We get very involved with our volunteers and want to make sure they have the best time possible, learning as much as they can as well as enjoying all the things we offer to our clients. This is why we don't take more than 2 volunteers at any time to make sure we can give the best quality time.
You will be staying with us, we live in an apartment in town (a 10min drive to the farm) walking distance from modern amenities such as Starbuck, cinemas and plenty of delicious restaurants and street food. You'll have your own room and bathroom. We have 8 rescued dogs as well as 4 rescued cats so you need to be comfortable with animals! They are very friendly and will give you plenty of purr/hug therapy!
Although we run our program throughout the year, note that the best period is from October to March only as it is very hot in April-May-June and very wet (because of the monsoon) in Jul-Aug-Sept. If you're feeling brave (and it's been done!!) you are welcome during summer/monsoon!
The day to day depends on how busy we are with guests and horse training. On some days you will accompany us to see clients at stud farms or other equestrian centres as well as rescue centres where we work to rehabilitate the horses.
If we stay at our farm, we start in the morning by cleaning the stalls and the horses as well as feeding them. We either do some ground work, with the program depending on the need at the time. We take time to discuss natural horsemanship theory as well as the realities of running this kind of business.
After lunch is a rest period as we usually get up early. Mid-afternoon we go back to working with horses. We usually use spare time to do some more theory sessions on horse psychology. We end the day by feeding the horses and chilling at the farm, enjoying the starry sky and farm cooked food.
You can go on walks and treks and there are yoga centres should you want to do that. Charlotte loves to go on long walks in the forest with the dogs, which you are welcome to join. Our proximity to shops/cafes also makes it easy for you to disappear and have a coffee if you wish to.
If you want to take a day off to go visit Delhi, or the Taj Mahal, for example, we can help you organise that too.
If you want to go anywhere we can call you a taxi or drop you in town or at the metro stations. There all sorts of activities that you typically find in big cities such as yoga, parks etc. You can also take a day to go and visit the Taj Mahal.
The fees you pay go towards the care and well being of our horses and other animals, as a priority. It covers all the time we dedicate to teaching you. We are passionate about what we do and our methods, which is why we always ensure that you get to learn as much as possible. As such, by volunteering, you actually only pay a fraction of what you would be paying to learn all these skills. Your contribution also helps us finance the charity projects that we do and don't get paid for, as well as take care of the rescue horses and dogs we have picked up along the way.
The fees include a pickup and drop off from New Delhi airport. It includes all your meals on the days you work (if you take a day off to go to town or do something else it's not covered). You will also be given a local sim card with a one-off recharge. Alcohol and restaurant outings are not included.
We live approx 30-45 min from Delhi International Airport. We'll wait for you at arrivals and bring you home, we'll also bring you back. If we are not free we will organise a driver with a name card to pick you up or drop you.
You will stay at home with us. You have your own room and bathroom. We take our meals together. We live in a safe, guarded enclosed community.
We eat mostly vegetarian food at home so we can easily accommodate vegetarians (and we don't mind meat eaters). We are happy to try to accommodate other dietary requirements but may need your help to cook the food you need in that case.
Alcohol, restaurants outings excluded.
We operate on a rolling basis so you can start whenever it suits you (depending on our availabilities of course). We will pick you up from Delhi airport.
