    Volunteer duties are diverse and include interaction with the center's exotic animals’, general conservation, and visitor education. So if you want to create a positive future for these mistreated animals, while exploring the world’s most remarkable rainforest, then read on!

    We include a 1-week full immersion FREE Spanish course because we believe that it will allow you to have a greater impact on the project, as you will be able to interact with local people and communities and share knowledge and skills. The Spanish course is catered to your project and will teach you specific vocabulary that you will need during the placement. 

    Challenges
    Illegal animal trafficking in Ecuador is far-reaching, the trade is the fourth most profitable illegal activity in the world. In 2014, the number of trafficked animals rescued by authorities was approximately 8,000. Most exotic animals are taken from their natural rainforest environment in order to be sold on the domestic or international market. Animals most at risk from trafficking are being sold as pets, they include reptiles, mammals, birds, fish and insects. 

    Solutions
    In recent years, several non-profit rescue centers have opened within Ecuador with the aim to rehabilitate, care for, and release back into the wild captured exotic animals. Although wildlife trafficking is now officially an illegal activity, the law can be hard to implement, especially in the outlying regions of the Amazon, therefore these important shelters are at the leading edge of the fight against illegal trafficking. We need your assistance to keep these centers in working order. Together we can stop this cruel industry!

    Come and join us to:
    • Work closely with vulnerable animals under the supervision of the center. 
    • Learn about the process to rehabilitate different breeds of animals.
    • Give close care and attention to mistreated, neglected or abandoned animals.
    • Rehabilitate animals and teach them how to survive in their natural habitat.
    • Release the animals back into the wild and give them a second chance in life.
    • Inform both local population and visitors on issues concerning illegal trafficking.
    • Create a lasting relationship between the community and the environment.
    With whom will the volunteers be working with?

    Center staff: Work under their supervision to care for animals and maintain the facility.
    Local communities: Interact with locals to share knowledge and build relationships.
    Visitors: Educate them about illegal trafficking and conservation efforts.

    Volunteer expectations: Follow schedules, adapt to changes, commit to animal welfare. Attend Sunday meetings. Use provided Spanish course.

    Volunteers can expect: Training, structured tasks, Spanish lessons, meaningful conservation work.

    Tagesablauf

    • Daily Schedule Summary (by Hour):

      7:00 - 9:00

      • First task: Clean and feed animals in assigned cages (non-visitor tour).

      • After: Clean the fruit bodega (storage).

        • Monday/Thursday only: Start at 7:00 by carrying fruits from the river to the bodega before cleaning/feeding.

      9:00 - 9:20

      • 20-minute breakfast ...

    Tagesablauf

    • Daily Schedule Summary (by Hour):

      7:00 - 9:00

      • First task: Clean and feed animals in assigned cages (non-visitor tour).

      • After: Clean the fruit bodega (storage).

        • Monday/Thursday only: Start at 7:00 by carrying fruits from the river to the bodega before cleaning/feeding.

      9:00 - 9:20

      • 20-minute breakfast break.

      9:20 - 13:00

      • CENTER WORK: Prioritize cleaning the bodega if unfinished.

        • Sunday/Wednesday: Disinfect entire bodega, buckets, and plates.

        • Monday/Thursday: Wash papayas/yucas and organize fruits.

      • Other tasks (examples):

        • Visitor tours, preparing animal enrichments, collecting leaves/fishing, cleaning volunteer areas, office help, raking paths, cooking meals, or using specialized skills.

      13:00 - 14:00

      • Lunch break (may occasionally include giving tours, shortening break time).

      14:00 - 14:30

      • Second feeding tour: Repeat morning feeding routine for assigned animals.

      • Mandatory: Clean the bodega before leaving.

      14:30 - 15:30

      • Various tasks (same examples as morning).

      15:30 - 16:00

      • Extra tasks: Planned weekly assignments.

      Weekly Responsibilities:

      • Once a week:

        • 17:30 – 20:30: Cook dinner for all volunteers.

        • 18:30 – 19:30: Feed tapirs and check kinkajous.

      • Every Sunday (after work): Mandatory volunteer meeting (discuss schedules, issues, etc.).


      • Bodega cleaning is a recurring priority throughout the day.

      • Flexibility required for task assignments based on daily needs.

    The Amazon jungle will be an entirely new environment for you, offering limitless adventures! Why not spend your free evenings chilling out in a hammock, socializing with fellow volunteers or meeting local neighbors. Spend weekends exploring the world’s most famous rainforest, or going on fun, short hikes. Or just spend ‘quality time’ hanging out with the wonderful animals you are helping live a better life.

    Um an diesem Programm teilzunehmen, musst du zu Programmbeginn mindestens 18 Jahre alt sein. Es kann Ausnahmen geben, wenn du die Erlaubnis deines/r Erziehungsberechtigten vorlegen kannst oder wenn du von deinen Eltern begleitet wirst

    Program requirements: You will be supervised by the centers technicians and professionals at all times, so as a volunteer you don’t need any professional requirements. However we do request that you have a genuine desire to help animals, commitment, and a hard-working attitude. You also need to be in reasonable physical condition as the work takes place outdoors and can be labor-intensive.

    You will be sharing a wooden house where rooms are either private or double. The space is shared with other volunteers from all over the globe!  The center provides sheets, blankets and pillows (although you can bring your own). There is a shared bathroom with cold water available.
