Please note the following confirmed dates for our 2026 bi-annual Project Monitor Staff Meetings:
2026 Mid-Year Staff WorkshopMonday 01st of June and Tuesday 02nd of June 2026
This affects all volunteers who book for, or whose placement includes, the two-week period between Monday 25th of May and Monday 08th of June 2026.
2026 Year-End Staff WorkshopMonday 16 November & Tuesday 17 November 2026
This affects all volunteers who book for, or whose placement includes, the two-week period between Monday 09th of November and Monday 23rd of November 2026.
We would like to ensure that any volunteers enquiring about placements during these periods are made fully aware, prior to confirmation, of the compulsory St Lucia leisure excursion and the associated additional costs.
While our Project Monitors are attending the staff meetings, all volunteers will be required to spend two nights away from their monitoring projects. During this time, we will transport all volunteers from all monitoring projects together to the beautiful coastal village of St Lucia, located on the east coast of northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Feedback from volunteers who have joined us during these periods in the past has been overwhelmingly positive. Many have appreciated the opportunity to explore more of Zululand, enjoy the social experience with fellow volunteers, and stay in comfortable, affordable accommodation, which serves as an excellent base for exploring the area.
This excursion is at the participant’s own cost; however, we have arranged a special reduced accommodation rate, and all transport to and from St Lucia is included.
St Lucia offers a wide range of optional activities, including:
A safari night drive in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park
A hippo, crocodile, and bird boat safari
Horseback safaris
A visit to Cape Vidal for snorkeling
A turtle tour, as St Lucia is home to the southernmost turtle nesting grounds in South Africa
This excursion provides a unique and memorable opportunity to experience one of South Africa’s most diverse and scenic regions
